The Moment Seizes Us: Study abroad in Turku, Finland

April - Feels good to be with people who care

It is always comfortable to be with people who value you as who you are. I felt that a lot during my time in Turku. Besides taking trips and having fun together, we shared a lot of genuine conversations about ourselves. We talked about our ups and downs with each other while knowing that they are the source of support and understanding. We hear about each other’s family traditions and culture while having some food from one country each Wednesday.

When my mom came to visit me, we had a big dinner together. My mom cannot speak English. So, I was the translator between her and my friends. They tried to use chopsticks, tasted spicy food, and learned about Chinese kitchen tricks. At the end of the dinner, my mom told me that even though she could not understand when my friends and I talked, she could still feel their warmth, caring, and empathy.

I could not agree more.
